=========================================== = Introduction = =========================================== ROVATool.exe was originally written in 2010 to replace the ROVAWRITER.exe tool commonly used to program Realtek display controllers. The main motivation was the general uglyness, buggyness and incompleteness of ROVAWRITER and the desire for 64-bit operating support. =========================================== = FTDI Programming solution = =========================================== Starting at version 2.0, it is now possible to use boards utilising FT232H as programming hardware for ROVATool. Due to minor issues with the latest v2.26 driver, it is recommended that the 2.10 driver (in Drivers\FTDI) be used for the board. Details of how FT232H boards are to be wired to the target are in FTDIProgrammer.pdf. Devices other than FT232H may work. These are: FT2232C, FT2232H and FT4232H. Only FT232H is tested by myself. =========================================== = Using ROVA USB programmer = =========================================== 1) Remove any installed USB device drivers supplied with the original kit. 2) Connect USB programmer, and use the driver in the Drivers\ directory 3) Now start the application, Once the ROVA USB-TOOLS USB adapter is connected, it will then download the firmware and load the second stage driver. =========================================== = Using Parallel programmer = =========================================== 1) For 64-bit systems, First run InstallDriver.exe 2) Optionally, run DisableParportPolling.reg. The application will still work without this however programming will fail for the first 5 minutes or so after Windows boots, as it is trying to discover printers attached to the Parallel port, which interferes with this application. 3) Enable the Parallel programmer in the Tools -> Settings dialog. Use Device manager to get the I/O address of your Parallel port. This application only supports traditional Parallel ports, that is, ones attached to the LPC/ISA bus, which have an I/O address. PCI and USB ports are not supported. =========================================== = Usage = =========================================== For ROVA boards, Gff2Bin generates the XML, .BN0 and .BN1 files needed for each program, open the .XML file and hit 'Program'. For Other boards, where .BIN file(s) is available, use the Open block 0 and block 1 commands. Officially this program supports two types of boards: 1) ROVA (R.RM3251, R.RM3451, R.RM5251, R.RM5451): - Use RTD2120 2) PCB800099: - Use RTD2660 For the most part any board utilising one of these devices should work.
